Veteran STEM Educator Joins Growing Team at The Pantheon

(Vincennes, Indiana) Longtime science and math educator Kreg Battles joins the Pantheon team this fall. Kreg Battles will serve as Program Coordinator for the Pantheon’s Hardware Store Science initiative. Battles has played a pivotal role in the education of thousands of students over the course of more than four decades. He retired last May from the Vincennes Community School Corporation.

Battles will work to promote the quantity and quality of STEM-enabled individuals who are already living in the community which will ultimately enhance the region’s much needed technical workforce.

"As a respected science educator, Kreg understands how to work with other teachers and help students. In addition, he has a genuine passion for making physical science and chemistry approachable and doable for all kids. His work will be impactful and valuable to our community” said Pantheon President and CEO Nichole Like.

Battles has called Vincennes home his entire life. He graduated from Lincoln High School and Indiana State University with a BS and MS. He also served as District 45 Representative in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2006 to 2014. While he left the formal education setting his involvement in athletics will continue as a coach of both basketball and track at the Middle School level.

About Hardware Store Science:

Dr. Jim Caruthers, the Gerald and Sarah Skidmore Professor of Engineering at Purdue University’s Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, developed Hardware Store Science ( as a hands-on approach to teaching the fundamentals of physics and chemistry through the making and testing of experimental apparatuses from materials available at a local hardware store. The program is affordable, practical, and aligns with IDOE standards.
